Abby Singh learned how to sheet mulch, along with her entire 6th grade class, at Ardenwood Elementary School in Fremont through StopWaste’s Bay-Friendly Action Project. This experience inspired her to convince her family to sheet mulch their own lawn.
The First Baptist Church in Alameda was at a crossroads: they wanted to invigorate and expand their congregation, and be an example for their fellow neighbors. The Boy Scout Troop that meets at the church offered to organize a community lawn conversion party as an Eagle Project. The Troop Leader contacted local Bay-Friendly Designer, Georgia Madden who then contacted StopWaste and a community partnership was born.
California drought restrictions prompted the Harbor Bay Isle Home Owners Association, which is in Alameda, to look for sustainable landscape tools for their members. The Association applied for a mini-grant from StopWaste to create 4 model designs for their members and happily agreed to host a lawn to garden party so residents could learn firsthand how to sheet mulch.
