Home Owners Association Sanctions Sheet Mulching!

California drought restrictions prompted the Harbor Bay Isle Home Owners Association, which is in Alameda, to look for sustainable landscape tools for their members. The Association applied for a mini-grant from StopWaste to create 4 model designs for their members and happily agreed to host a lawn to garden party so residents could learn firsthand how to sheet mulch.

Landscape contractor Cagwin and Dorward provided the model designs for HOA members, as well as the design for the lawn to garden party site. Over 60 residents sheet mulched and planted the common area on a prominent street corner. Nearly all pledged to convert their own lawns with sheet mulch. Thanks to the foresight of the Harbor Bay Isle Owner’s Association, members who want to convert their lawns will receive an expedited design review if they use one of the model designs and sheet mulch their lawn with cardboard, compost and mulch.
