Confused about what type of compost and mulch to apply to your project?

In addition to creating beautiful landscapes, the California landscape industry is tasked with designing landscapes that require less water, less maintenance, promote soil health, protect the environment, and meet environmental requirements such as the Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance, Bay-Friendly Rated Landscapes, and LEED.

Fortunately, California has a growing supply of manufactured compost to improve soil health, sequester carbon, and reduce erosion. At this Landscape Advisory Committee General Meeting, Ron Alexander will cover benefits, selection, and application of compost and mulch for a variety of landscape construction and maintenance projects. This presentation is geared for landscape professionals.

Ron Alexander is the President of R. Alexander Associates, Inc., a consulting company specializing in product development for organic recycled products. With more than 500 completed consulting projects, 400 papers and presentations, and numerous composting awards, Ron is considered an expert in researching, marketing, and application of compost and mulch.

Ron authored the Field Guide to Compost Use, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Specifications for Compost Use in Erosion Control, and Landscape Architecture Specifications for Compost Utilization. Ron holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture.

The meeting will be held at the EBMUD Administration Building at 375 11th Street in Oakland on the second floor. The Administration Building is conveniently located near the 12th Street Oakland City Center BART station. Please arrive promptly. Light refreshments will be served.
